What Sunshine Coast Council charges to inspect a pool fence, and when a renovation needs one
By Artigellence ·
Sunshine Coast Council's 2026-27 fees list a pool fence safety inspection and certificate at A$590 and a re-inspection at A$260. A renovation does not need a certificate on its own: one is required when a property with a pool is sold or leased. The pool fence page covers the standard, and the Pool renovation costs and rules check lists every council line with its source.

The fee and what it covers
Sunshine Coast Council's 2026-27 Development Services register lists a pool fence safety inspection and pool fence safety certificate at $590, a pool fence safety re-inspection at $260 and a pool fence exemption at $550. That is A$590 for the first inspection and certificate, and A$260 if the fence fails and has to be looked at again.
The register also says that all its fees, unless otherwise specified, are GST exempt.
When a renovation needs a certificate
QBCC says a property owner must have a pool safety certificate when selling or leasing a property with a pool. The same page says only a pool safety inspector licensed by QBCC can issue one. Resurfacing the pool does not start that requirement; selling the house does.
When the fence is part of the job
Some fence repairs need no building approval but must still meet the standard, such as adjusting a maximum of 2.4m of the fence or 2 posts. If sections of the fence come out during the work, a temporary fence must be installed. A fence that fails on inspection costs the re-inspection fee on top.
What Noosa Shire does differently
Noosa Shire Council's own licensed pool safety inspectors carry out its inspections, and the council requires payment before the inspection. Its fee for an application for exemption from the pool safety standard is $642. A pool on that side of the council line is priced from a different register.
What to ask the provider
Ask whether the quote includes an inspection, which council's fee it assumes, and who lodges the pool register update. Ask for the certificate when the job is finished.
What could change
Councils set their fees each financial year. This site records the day the register was read, 27 September 2026. Read the council's current register before you rely on any figure here.
